Tonight's feature film starring Burt Lancaster, Gilbert Roland, Kieron Moore

For the most dangerous wartime missions, send a band of convicted criminals who have nothing to lose... It's a good plot, and Robert Aldrich used it for his grimly realistic "Dirty Dozen". In "Ten Tall Men" it turns up in an earlier and lighter variation with Burt Lancaster as the hard-bitten Sergeant Kincaid, a French Legionnaire jailed for flirting with the commandant's wife.
With the fort at Tarfa under Riff attack, Kincaid and nine other prisoners are released on a suicide mission. And the name of the associate producer? It's Robert Aldrich!

The sixties through British eyes would at first appear to belong to two men: Henry Cooper, our champion through the decade, and Cassius Clay. But other names come to mind: Terry Downes, Dave Charnley, Brian Curvis, Howard Winstone. In 10 years British boxers fought for world titles at every principal weight. British boxing reached a very high standard indeed in the sixties.
