The outstanding ice-skating performances of recent years all in one programme - these are the highlights of the last in the series Champions' Way this evening. And to talk about them and the champions who take part, Alan Weeks will have with him in the studio two famous ice-skating champions - Sjoukje Dijkstra (above), the World and European champion and Olympic gold medallist who has just turned professional, and Courtney Jones, who with two partners, June Markham and Doreen Denny, won the World Ice Dancing Championship four times. Champions looking at champions... and what champions!
First, there is Donald Jackson, whose electrifying performance to win the World Championship in Prague in 1962 made a tremendous impact on a vast television audience. It is this performance which is featured in this evening's programme. Other champions and specific performances include Sjoukje Dijkstra winning the Olympic gold medal at Innsbruck this year; the brilliant Russian pair Protopopov and Belousova in their gold-medal-winning routine; Kilius and Baumler winning the European Championship at Grenoble. In addition you will be able to see Britain's top skaters of recent years-Jeannette Altwegg, Olympic gold medallist 1952; John and Jennifer Nicks, World pairs skating champions 1953 and, of course, Courtney Jones and Doreen Denny.
