Keen Football League followers will appreciate the reason for the inclusion of this week's ' Background to Sport' talk in this evening's programme instead of in yesterday's. No fewer than 48 of the 88 League clubs were playing League matches yesterday, and many of the listeners who will most appreciate C. E. Sut cliffe's talk would have found it particularly inconvenient to listen to him.
President of the Football League, and perhaps the most respected ' statesman ' of the game, Mr. Sutcliffe needs no introduction to listeners.

In 1883 Rimsky-Korsakov was appointed Assistant Director of the Russian Imperial Chapel, part of his duties being the musical education of the younger singers. It was for them that he wrote his textbook on harmony. And this Fantasia for Violin and Orchestra, dating from the winter of 1886-7, was especially composed for Krasnokutsky, the violin teacher of the Chapel, and the students' orchestra.
The Fantasia is a most attractive work based entirely on Russian folk-tunes-one of them a melody of exceptional beauty. Rimsky-Korsakov was so pleased with the piece that he sketched out a companion work on Spanish themes. But the sketches were never worked out in this form ; instead they became the basis of the famous ' Spanish Capriccio '

The Hart House String Quartet is the leading chamber music organisation in Canada. Attached to the Hart House Theatre, which in its - turn is a branch of the University of Toronto, it is endowed to an extent that makes its members independent of any other work so that they can devote their entire energies to rehearsing and playing in public. It is interesting to note that the leader, James Levey , used to be well known in London as principal of the New Symphony Orchestra and leader of the London String Quartet. The 'cellist, Boris Hambourg , is a brother of Mark Hambourg.
The Quartet in A minor, Op. 51, No. 2, a fine work of Brahms's maturity, was first played, from manuscript, by the Joachim Quartet in 1873, when Brahms was forty. It shows his easy command of the richest beauties the quartet of strings can show, and that easy spaciousness which is so attractive a feature of the composer's style. The very opening bars give us that feeling. In them we note, incidentally, two of Brahms's characteristics: his fondness for melodies moving in arpeggio and his effective use of cross rhythms
