Stories from World History
' The Phoenicians '
A Dramatic Interlude written by Commander J. G. BOWER
The Phoenicians were sailors, traders, and skilled workmen, and it was said of them that they were ' the greatest long-distance seamen of the world for a thousand years'. Their trading helped to spread goods and arts and writing from one place to another, even to our own country.
They were expert at dyeing and glass manufacture, explored the Mediterranean from East to West, and founded harbours and colonies as far as the Atlantic coast.
Today listeners are to hear about some of their exploits and adventures.

' The Five Senses '
R. C. GARRY , M.B., Ch.B., D.Sc., Professor of Physiology, University College, Dundee, in the University of St. Andrews
In this lesson we shall turn our attention to our bodies. We shall study how we, you and I, obtain information about the marvellous events which occur in the world round us.
How would you fare if you had no ears and no eyes, no sense of smell, of taste or of touch ? Have you ever thought how dependent you are on your five senses ?
These are some of the problems we shall try to solve today.
