The subject of Anthony Hurd's talk today is 'The Poultry Industry'. He runs about 2,000 head of poultry on his own farm, and will deal with the progress which this side of farming has made since the war. He will discuss the present position of poultry farmers and the prospects for the industry.
This talk has a topical interest, for one of the most famous poultry shows held in this country opens tomorrow at the Crystal Palace and will remain open on Wednesday and Thursday. A cockerel winning a cup at the Palace has the prestige of a Derby winner, and a prize-winning pullet the eclat of a winner of the Oaks. Farmers' children will be interested to know that an outside broadcast of this great show at the Crystal Palace will be given in the London Children's Hour tomorrow - Regional programme, 5.15.

Contrasts in Village Life by ROBIN WHITWORTH
Illustrated by people from three Nottinghamshire villages-Laxton, Caunton, and Ollerton
(From Birmingham)
In this programme featuring changes in village life, Laxton represents the Manor, Caunton the half-way house, Ollerton the mine. Actual villagers from each of these villages will be brought to the microphone and will describe their way of living and the village and countryside they have known since childhood. If in Ollerton much of it is gone, bringing a new way of living, in Laxton the mediaeval ' three-field ' fashion of rotating crops is still maintained. Nothing has changed here with the years, whereas at Caunton subtle changes have crept in. Manor to Mine shows England as it was, England changed underneath, and England changed out of recognition. Not necessarily improved, for change is not necessarily progress. Are they happier at Laxton or at Caunton or at Ollerton ? Listeners may be able to gather from the villagers themselves.
This broadcast is a picture, as it were, that happily illustrates the series of talks on ' The Village ', which began on October 6 and is to continue until December 15.
