A Running Commentary on the Race
At the Paddock, R. C. LONG
At the Grand Stand, R. C. LYLE from the Manchester Race Course,
Castle Irwell
Year after year the flat season is wound up at Manchester, and once again listeners are to hear a running commentary on the last important handicap on the flat until the Lincoln starts the ball rolling next spring.
The Manchester November Handicap
has a harassed record. Held up by the war in 1915 and 1916. Planet won in 1917. No race again the next year. Abandoned through frost in 1923 and 1925, abandoned through fog in 1926. But nothing has interfered with it between Old Orkney coming home in 1927 and the versatile Free Fare last year.
The race is run over 1 mile 4 furlongs at Castle Irwell, the course right handed, the going generally soft. R. C. Long, who will describe the scene in the paddock, is well known to racing enthusiasts as ' 'Augur' of Sporting Life, and R. C. Lyle, the BBC commentator, is Racing Correspondent of The Times.
