The drama of the Norwegian poet Björnson, Sigurd Jorsalfar (Sigurd the Crusader), is a tale of Norway in the time of the Crusades. Sigurd and his brother Eystein, sons of the great Harald, are fierce rivals, each reigning over part of Norway. At the end of the play they become reconciled and dedicate -themselves jointly to the service of their country. Grieg wrote incidental music for the production of the play, afterwards recasting several of the movements in the form of n very effective Suite.

There are several piano duets based on the well-known children's theme ' Chopsticks '. Probably, the most ingenious of all is the ' Paraphrases ' conceived by Borodin. It originally began as a joke, for the amusement of one of his adopted daughters, in the form of an improvised Polka with the ' Chopsticks ' theme forming a kind of counterpoint. It was so successful that Borodin's friends, Rimsky-Korsakov, Cui, and Liadov, joined in the fun, and they amused themselves by performing these ' Paraphrases ' with people who could not play the piano. The complete set of ' Paraphrases ' consists of twenty-four Variations, of which eight are by Rimsky-Korsakov, five by Cui, and eleven by Liadov, followed by a series of fifteen pieces, of which Borodin's contribution consists of the original Polka, a Mazurka, a ' Marche funèbre ', and a Requiem for male voices and organ.

T. H. MARSHALL
Today we insure against everything and invest our savings as a matter of course. But Mr. Marshall is to take listeners back to the days when the country was released from the restraints of the Commonwealth, and bright clothes and pleasure were the things to live for; when bubble companies sprang up in the night and promised to turn this world into a land of fairy god-mothers.
Credit was the fairy wand and speculation became the craze. Shares were bought and sold in coffee houses, and everybody lost his head. Mr. Marshall will describe the fever of it all and the ruin involved eventually in the bursting of the South Sea Bubble-which burst all the other bubbles and brought people back to facts.

The First Programme Broadcast of Rudyard Kipling's Works selected by R. Ellis Roberts and Val Geilgud
This programme 'By Rudyard Kipling' must not be considered as intended in any way comprehensively to represent the career or the sum of the work of this great author. Few writers have displayed so many varying facets of activity as Rudyard Kipling, nor did he substitute for the leisured splendours of English prose the mannerisms of Mr. Jingle. So anything like complete representation is rendered impossible. But those who know and love their Kipling will find here some of their favourites, while in those who do not know Kipling it is hoped that this selection may raise a desire for a further knowledge of one of the great short-story writers of the world.
