The Lord's Prayer (in Russian)
The Russian Orthodox Theological Academy was founded in Paris in 1924. The Academy Choir consists of seven singers, under the direction of Ivan Denissov , late of the Imperial Opera St.
Petersburg, and Professor of Church Music at the Theological Institute, I'aris.
M. Denissov , well known as a singer, has been leading tenor at the Paris Opera, as well as at St. Petersburg. The Choir of the Russian Orthodox Theological Academy has sung in England (their first visit was in 1934). France, Switzerland, Belgium, and Holland, and has been highly praised for its purity of tone and austerity of style. The music chosen for their concerts consists chiefly of old chants previously heard only in monasteries.

Quartet movement in C minor Schubert
The gulf that lies between Schubert's treatment of the string quartet up to his twentieth year, and this fragment written when he was twenty-three, is very wide. No longer is he concerned merely with a ' conversation between four agreeable persons ' to which the Haydnesque quartet was likened, but, like Beethoven ten years before, he uses the form as a medium of profound and personal expression. In this movement it is as though he were trying to curb the tumult of the senses into which his oppressive experiences had hurled him, and achieving at the end resignation, but not peace. In what manner he would have continued this intimate disturbing document it is not possible to know.

This must have been one of the last works Schubert wrote, for it belongs to the year in which he died, 1828, when he was only in his thirty-second year.
The inclusion of two 'cellos among the five instruments gives great richness and solidity of tone, and the management of the dialogue between all five instruments is a delight in itself. The themes are sometimes closely and seriously argued ; at other times the discussion is quick, gay, and bantering. The slow movement is surely one of the two or three loveliest movements in all Schubert's music. The scherzo has been nicknamed ' The Hunt'.

An appeal on behalf of THE LLANDUDNO AND DISTRICT NEW HOSPITAL, by the Right Hon. DAVID LLOYD GEORGE, O.M., D.C.L., LL.D., M.P.

The Llandudno and District Hospital was built in 1886, and since that date various extensions have been made. As it is not possible to extend further on the present site, and as hospital accommodation is now inadequate for the large and growing population of the district-a population that is greatly increased in the summer months-the building of a new hospital on another site is essential.
Splendid help in support of efforts to raise funds has been given in the hospital area. Tonight Mr. Lloyd George will appeal to the many listeners who have spent happy holidays in Llandudno and to those who have benefited from the work of the hospital, to raise part of the £15,000 still required for this cause.
