ORCHESTRA
Symphony (No. 1) in E minor Sibelius i. Andante ma non troppo, Allegro energetico ; 2. Andante ma non troppo lento; 3. Scherzo; 4. Finale (quasi una Fantasia)
Only one of Sibelius's symphonies is identified by name with any part of h's country's folk-lore. Composed already when he returned home in 1893, Kullervo, a symphony for solo voices, chorus and orchestra, is based on the national epic, the Kalevala, in which he found inspiration for so much of his music. But he has never allowed it to be published. Op. 39, which has always been known as. his first symphony, appeared six years later, after such distinctively Finnish music as En Saga, Karetia, Rakastava, and Finlandia had made it clear wherein lay his strength and his downright sincerity.
The symphony, nameless though it is, is as definitely a part of Finland's racial heritage as any of those. It is more strictly in accord with tradition, in its form, than any of the latter symphonies.
Ore of the foremost present-day Italian composers, Respighi was first made known to us in this country by the music for this ballet. The tunes are taken from some of the light pieces, chiefly written for pianoforte, which Rossini composed in his last years, after he had practically retired from the operatic world, and Respighi has arranged them to make a delightfully fresh and dainty ballet.

JOHN MORGAN and ANNESLEY VOYSEY
Kent County Council provides instructional centres in several market towns for ' school-leavers ' who have already taken up farm work. A few other counties are setting out to provide similar facilities.
Children who have just left school to work on the land need an all-round training if they are to be efficient and happy in their work. There is also the problem of the town child who wants to take up an out-of-door life and who, given the right background and training, would make good. Both types, as yet, are too young for the courses at the Farm Institutes and Colleges, and many of them must learn while they earn.
Mr. Annesley Voysey will discuss with Mr. John Morgan what Kent is doing to meet the need for training in evening for boys and girls between the ages of fourteen and sixteen.

A Melodrama of Czarist Russia by G. F. NOXON and LAURENCE GILLIAM
Based on a play by Alexis Tolstoy , from the Russian by George Reavey
Characters
Detectives :
President of court, a waiter, a cab driver, a policeman, passers-by, etc., etc., played by HARALD COLONNA , EDWARD CRAVEN , CHARLES MASON ,
CATHLEEN CORDELL , and JOSEPHINE SHAND
Produced by LANCE SIEVEKING
Fantastic as it may seem. this play is based strictly on fact. Ivan Nicolaevitch Azeff was a real person who nourished in Czarist Russia, and he did act at the same time as an agent of the Secret Police, and as head of the Battle Organisation of the revolutionaries. In the course of his career, he took part in escapades and treacheries worthy of the most sensational novelist. The facts behind tonight's radio play are given in more detail in the article on page 13.
('Azeff' will be repeated in the Regional programme on Friday night)
