(Solo violin, ALFREDO CAMPOLI) A name which appears frequently in broadcast programmes, but unhappily attached almost exclusively to one item, that of Zdenek Fibich. As a matter of fact, Fibich, who died in 1900, was, his day, prominent with Smetana and Dvorak in the renaissance of Bohemian music, which took place in the latter half of the nineteenth century. He wrote, example, a number of operas, some which are still in the repertory of le Prague Opera-house ; three symphonies; a number of symphonic ems ; and a great quantity of music all forms. That we should now know him merely as the composer of 'Poeme' a somewhat bitter reflection on a composer who enjoyed, in his day, more than ordinary reputation. he colour of his music is distinctly romantic; in his early days he was an ardent disciple of Schumann, though, later, he came to found his music on the folk songs of his native Bohemia.

The Massed Bands of His Majesty's Coldstream Guards, His Majesty's Scots Guards, His Majesty's Welsh Guards
(By permission of the officers commanding)
relayed from The Quarry, Shrewsbury
Conducted by Lieut. J. Causley Windram (Director of Music, Coldstream Guards)
(Midland Regional Programme)

This is the second day of the Shrewsbury Show, which is a musical as well as a floral fete, and an outstanding annual event for Salop. For over fifty years, music by Massed Guards Bands - not always the same three - has been a regular feature, and one of which both the City and the County are justly proud, for Shrewsbury is the only place in the provinces where Massed Guards Bands give a public performance.

Radiolympia is the outstanding event of the year in broadcasting. It is designed to put before listeners throughout the country the very latest models and ideas in radio sets. Here listeners may meet and exchange opinions and here they may get expert advice. The Exhibition opens on Thursday, and with the exception of Sunday, will remain open until Saturday week. It will be held for a week in Glasgow from August 31 to September 8.
Throughout the ten days in London and during the week at Glasgow broadcast stars will entertain all who go to the Exhibition. So far as London is concerned, broadcasts will be given on Thursday (National) and on Saturday (Regional) the first week, and on the Monday and Saturday (National) and on the Wednesday (Regional) the second week.
Radiolympia will be decorated in blue and gold, with floodlighting effects which will change the colour scheme according to the temperature outside. If it is hot, the audience will be cooled with an opal tint of early morning.
If it is cold, they will be warmed with a sunset-rose. The actual ventilation will be kept at a uniform temperature by means of a special plant.

Under the sub-title 'Happy Landing' Mr. Filson Young will give his final talk about his experiences while learning to fly. This evening, too, he will bring to the microphone his instructor, Captain Baker, and introduce him to listeners.
Captain Baker is one of the most famous and most successful flying instructors. He has taught many of the celebrities who have learnt to fly.
Tonight he will tell listeners what he thinks about his latest pupil, and, of course, his latest pupil will have something to say about him.
Mr. Filson Young seems to have made really extraordinary progress. No doubt he will soon be as happy flying in the air as he is speaking over it-
