Robin Richmond was first attracted to the organ while still at school and took every opportunity of stealing away to the organ in the church.
The organist there was sympathetic and gave Robin many tips, later becoming his teacher. When he was seventeen he landed his first job as assistant organist with the Streatham Astoria Orchestra. Following on this. he played for two years at the Trocette Cinema in South London, and later at the Granada. Brighton. He gave his first broadcast in this country on September 13, 1938, after giving his very first broadcast from Schevening, Holland, only ten days earlier.

Vítezslav Novak (born in Bohemia in 1870), together with Joseph Suk and Janacek, is generally considered one of the leaders of modern Czech music. He was a favourite pupil of Dvorak, but his earlier works show more of the influence of Schumann and Brahms. Later on, however, Novak became interested in national folk song, with the result that some of his more important works are based on actual folk tunes.
Novak's Slovakian Suite was written in 1903 and has become one of his most popular works. It suggests the atmosphere of a festival and is very national in colour, particularly in the fourth number, At a dance', in which Moravian Slovak dance rhythms are introduced.
