' A simple, religious play, sincere and moving-a true picture of the spiritual and moral ruminations of the Welsh mind.' That was the late Sir Nigel Playfair 's description of this play when it was produced at the Lyric, Hammersmith, some years ago. It is the story of Judas Iscariot 's search for the last of the thirty pieces of silver for which he betrayed Christ.

Schumann's Symphony No. 4, in D minor, is an extremely romantic work ; each movement is closely related to the others in thematic material. At first Schumann thought it would be better entitled ' Symphonic Fantasy ', but later he decided that as it was constructed on the general lines of a symphony it had better be called a symphony.
Although the themes in this symphony are developed in a somewhat improvisatory manner and the scoring at times is certainly not as well calculated as it might be, it contains a wealth of beautiful music which outweighs any of its defects.

(In collaboration with Egyptian State
Broadcasting)
Since June 19 Egyptian State Broadcasting has been running regular programmes for the British and Dominion troops in the Middle East. As adviser on these broadcasts they have the services of Peter Haddon , the well-known London actor and broadcaster, who served in Egypt in the last war (in the Scottish Horse) and- knows what sort of entertainment the troops enjoy.
Working with him in this programme is Richard Dimbleby , the BBC's news observer in the Middle East. The broadcast will be typical of the radio fare that Cairo provides for the troops, with the addition of a speech broadcast by the British Ambassador some weeks ago.

A regular feature of the BBC's Overseas Service is the special religious service broadcast each Sunday from this country to the whole Empire. These broadcasts cannot be heard by the ordinary listener at home, though some shortwave listeners may have picked them up. Today the position is reversed, and all listeners to the Home Service will be able to hear this service from Toronto, with the knowledge that it is being heard throughout the Empire.
An appeal on behalf of the British Sailors' Society, by the Rt. Hon. Ronald Cross , Minister of Shipping

The society cares for thousands of sailors of the Royal and Merchant Navies, providing sleeping accommodation, meals, and recreation, and generally looks after their spiritual and physical welfare.
