After winning his case against Philip Bosinney, his wife's lover, Soames returns home to find his wife Irene has fled. Broken, he visits his father, James Forsyte, and tells him of the disgrace that threatens the family. James advises him to follow Irene and get her back.
Meanwhile, Philip's fiancee June visits his rooms to find out why he did not appear in court. Irene is there and an unpleasant scene follows. While this is taking place a police inspector arrives at Soames's house and tells him that Philip Bosinney has been killed and that they suspect suicide.

A first glimpse or a reminder of Dr. Albert Schweitzer 's thought
Compiled from his writings and produced by Edward Livesey with Carleton Hobbs as narrator
Dr. Schweitzer, who has lived in French Equatorial Africa since 1913, has four separate reputations-as a philosopher, as a theologian, as a musician, and as a humanitarian. This programme shows how the four are linked together in the life and work of one of the most original and remarkable thinkers of our time. His hospital at Lambarene, ' The Quest of the Historical Jesus,' his study of Bach, and his childhood experiences in Alsace all have their influence in producing the philosophy which Dr. Schweitzer called ' Reverence for Life.'
