CAIRO CALLING

on BBC Home Service Basic

View in Radio Times

A recording of a programme broadcast to the Forces in the Middle East, arranged by Peter Haddon and Richard Dimbleby , including a speech by Sir Miles Lampson , British Ambassador to Egypt and High
Commissioner for the Sudan
(In collaboration with Egyptian State
Broadcasting)
Since June 19 Egyptian State Broadcasting has been running regular programmes for the British and Dominion troops in the Middle East. As adviser on these broadcasts they have the services of Peter Haddon , the well-known London actor and broadcaster, who served in Egypt in the last war (in the Scottish Horse) and- knows what sort of entertainment the troops enjoy.
Working with him in this programme is Richard Dimbleby , the BBC's news observer in the Middle East. The broadcast will be typical of the radio fare that Cairo provides for the troops, with the addition of a speech broadcast by the British Ambassador some weeks ago.
