Start the day with a song grave or gay on gramophone records
Conducted by Eric Fogg
Eric Fogg , who before the war was conductor of the BBC Empire Orchestra, began his musical career as a junior member of the Manchester Cathedral Choir. Later he came under the influence of Sir Sydney Nicholson and Dr. Bullock. After this he became organist at St. John's, Deansgate. Owing to frequent attendances at Halle concerts under Richter, Fogg at the age of sixteen decided to give up the organ and become a conductor, having already had slight experience with an amateur orchestra.
During the early days of the BBC he became an accompanist, conductor, and kind of musical factotum at the Manchester station, finally becoming chief assistant to the North Regional Music Director, D. H. Morrison. In 1934 he transferred to Broadcasting House in London and organised the music section of the Empire Service. Eric Fogg has distinguished himself no less as a composer, one of his outstanding achievements being the Concerto for bassoon and orchestra which has often been broadcast.

Major W.H. Osman
Major Osman, unrivalled in his knowledge of the value of the homing pigeon in wartime (see 'This Week's Radio Miscellany' on page 7), will say something about its services in the Great War. He will also explain to breeders the existing wartime regulations as to permits for keeping pigeons, and permits for racing them - two different things; and he will advise them generally about carrying on in wartime, and stress the need to do so, for, if the war goes on, young birds will be wanted to recruit the Service lofts.
