A Play
' Safe in the Country', No. 1-Eggs
Children who have had to leave London and other cities for the country will particularly appreciate this new series of plays by one of the most popular radio playwrights who ever wrote for the Children's Hour. L. du Garde Peach's work is always first-rate and tremendously human.
The three principal characters are Vernon (aged twelve), Molly (aged nine), and Peter (aged six), who have all been evacuated from a big centre to a farm. Everything is strange to them-even the geese and the cows alarm them. In the first episode it will be shown how they settled down in their new surroundings.

Here's a feature programme in which we will introduce to you some of the interesting people who are 'In the Canteen Tonight'
Edited and produced by C.F. Meehan
Here is a wartime version of 'In Town Tonight', produced by Meehan, who was responsible for the popular series after Hanson's death. The Town will not be London, nor is one permitted to say of people
But in an imaginary canteen listeners will meet all kinds of people engaged in war work - men and women working in every branch of National Service. Throughout the series there will be real-life interviews with those who have exchanged their peace-time callings for something that makes life topsy-turvy, and perhaps far more worthwhile. In the canteen there will be, broadcast after broadcast, familiar figures, such as Canteen Kate and the rather aggressive Sergeant Atkins, to say nothing of an old soldier called Smithy, the embodiment of every 'ole sweat' that ever was.
