Scotland's Stephen Hendry , while last year's otherfinalist, Ireland's Ken Doherty , defeated another Scot, John Higgins , 9-6. Both victors went on to compete in an epic final during which Doherty managed to fight back from a two-frame deficit, only to lose his 28-9 lead in the final frame.
