Wayne Arthurs of Australia equalled his best Wimbledon performance from 1999 as he defeated American Taylor Dent in four sets, all of which were decided by a tie-break. Meanwhile Nicolas Lapentti of Ecuador, seeded 22, reached the fourth round for the first time after a tough five-set match against 15th seed Andrei Pavel of Romania.
