From the funeral of Diana, Princess of Wales, to the trial of Louise Woodward, from
Tony Bullimore's miraculous ocean rescue to the triumphal images of Labour's election victory, photographers have helped to shape the vision of the year's key news events.
Decisive Moments returns to explore the making of the images of 1997 and talks to the picture editors who selected them, the agencies who sold them and, most importantly, the photographers themselves.
They talk frankly about their work and their own complex reactions to the subjects that made the headlines. See today's choices.

Clocking off ... Angus Deayton sees out the old in The End of the Year Show
Today's Choices

Decisive Moments/The End of the Year Show/TFI 1998

7.30pm BBC2/11.00pm BBC1/11.00pm C4 I broadcasting from the Prime Minister's home (allegedly), Angus Deayton takes a satirical look back over 1997, the year of Teletubbies, The Full Monty, the Spice Girls and, on a more serious note, the death of Diana, Princess of Wales. Among his musical guests at "Number 10" are Louise, Erroll Brown and Lesley Garrett, who sings her personal tribute to Diana.
No doubt touching on similar subjects, Decisive Moments offers a roundup of the best news photographs of 1997 and talks to press photographers, picture agencies and editors about their ethics and their reactions to the subjects that made the headlines.
Later in the evening, Chris Evans and the TFl 1 1998 team keep partying through the night before launching headlong into the New Year.
