Clive Anderson's introduction to Beirut comes via a Muslim taxi driver whose mixed marriage has brought him death threats. Fifteen different ethnic and religious groups inhabit the city and they have in the past all engaged in bitter struggles for power and territory. In the third of his four-part tour of the world's blackspots, he explores the war-scarred city with British journalist Giles Trendle, visiting the gutted buildings now under reconstruction.
In contrast, he finds the rich seemingly untouched by the devastation.
