Dear Mrs Bottomley
Pierre Rostand and his son Frederic, a BBC reporter, embark on an investigation into the death of the family's eldest son Marc, who died from head injuries after running in front of a car. He was 36 years old and a schizophrenic. Diagnosed at 17, he spent years in and out of psychiatric hospitals, then under "community care" he was shifted from hotel to bedsit - excluded from sheltered accommodation because of his behaviour. He was no longera priority for hospital care. Pierre Rostand 's letterto Secretary of State for Health Virginia Bottomley, in which he asked for her help, remains unacknowledged to this day. A phone-in discussion of the issues raised follows immediately on BBC Radios Berkshire, Kent, Oxford and GLR. If you would like to take part, call [number removed]after the programme.
