Silences Emmanuel , better known as Manu Dibango , was born in the Cameroon, West Africa. Like many young Africans in the 1940s and 50s, he went to study in France. Unlike most, he stayed and pursued a career as a musician. In Paris 40 years on, Dibango is the most revered of Africa's musical exiles. His style is a fusion of avant-garde jazz and the makossa dance rhythms of the Cameroon.
In this film, Dibango returns to Africa to look into the history of France and its former colonies.
