A broken handle from an ancient amphora and three old photographs were enough to put Oxford archaeologist Mensun Bound on the trail of an Etruscan ship wrecked off the coast of Italy 2,600 years ago. Regiment, the Cheshires and the Royal Artillery. Of all the stories that came out of the evacuation of Allied Forces in 1940, theirs has to be one of the most horrifying: a massacre by the SS, extraordinary acts of courage, and accusations against one of Hitler's most important generals.
