The Mulkanoor Co-operative, in Andhra Pradesh, about 100 miles north of Hyderabad, has become known all over India as an example of what the co-operative movement can achieve. Some families like the Venkat Rajams have belonged for 20 years; others like the Rajeswara Raos have only recently begun to reap the benefits of membership; and families like the Bikshapatis are anxious to join the co-operative and share in its success. Why has Mulkanoor been successful and what lessons does it have for other co-operatives?
