Celebrating the 30th anniversary of the conquest of Mount Everest. In the early summer of 1982, the first British Expedition for half a century returned to the Tibetan side of Everest for an attempt on the East-North-East Ridge - the only ridge still unconquered.
The expedition - led by Chris Bon ington-was to end in tragedy. Of the team of four high altitude climbers, among the best in the world, two - Joe Tasker and Pete Boardman - met an unknown fate, and a third suffered a stroke at 27,000 feet and had to be evacuated from the mountain.
Before he disappeared, Tasker made a unique and moving record on film of this extraordinary endeavour. Narrator JOHN CASTLE
