The second of two programmes
What's a photograph worth? Is it worth more than the paper its printed on? ' Taking a photograph,' says Snowdon, ' is freezing a moment to impart an emotion in the simplest way possible.' Nevertheless vast amounts of money are being made by agents, gallery owners and camera manufacturers. In this programme he talks to people who value photographs much higher than the small amount of money the paper costs: a newspaper picture editor, the head of a syndication agency, American collectors, auctioneers and gallery owners and the Californian photographer Ansel Adams , whose works are now valued in millions of pounds. He asks experts Dr Roy Strong and Diana Vreeland if the current boom in the price of ' Art' photographs perhaps has gone too far.
