Live from the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden
A performance of a new production of DONIZETTI'S opera with Libretto by FELICE ROMANI after VICTOR HUGO 's melodrama
Donizetti's melodic opera tells of Lucrezia Borgia's love for her illegitimate son, Gennaro, who does not know she is his mother. Gennaro's friends, especially Maffio Orsini, hate and despise Lucrezia for her murderous deeds. The i jealousy of Alfonso, Lucrezia's fourth husband, who believes Gennaro is his wife's lover, and Lucrezia's revenge for insults made against her lead to tragedy when she inadvertently poisons her own son.
