Encounter with Jupiter
NASA's two robot spacecraft, Voyager 1 and 2, are making one of the most remarkable voyages of discovery ever. They are en route through the solar system, skimming past the vast alien worlds of the giant outer planets. They have already encountered Jupiter and its moons.
Floating over the cloud-tops of the giant planet, they sent back 33,000 TV pictures. They saw huge storms boiling in the intensely coloured atmosphere. On the moons, they found active volcanoes throwing d6bris hundreds of miles into space, and saw oceans frozen for billions of years. Why is this bizarre collection of alien worlds so different from our own?
