Introduced by Cliff Michelmore
The Daily Mirror RAC Rally runs for more than 2,000 miles across the length and breadth of Britain and is the most competitive motoring event of the year, with up to a million spectators.
Last week Finland, France, West Germany and Sweden sent their drivers and cars to York in a bid to win back the event from the British holder, Roger Clark.
After four days and three nights of flat-out driving against the clock in the hills and forests of England, Scotland and Wales, the finalists are due to arrive back in York tonight as this outside broadcast report goes on the air.
