By next Christmas this country will have spent another £235-million of public money on aid to the poorer nations. Britain is not alone - all rich nations give aid to poor, under-developed countries. But do aid programmes really alleviate the poverty of nations?
Paul Griffiths reports how Indonesia raises the £270-million a year that it needs to maintain its present low standards of living, and how it is spending money to achieve economic take-off.
