Filmed from the air this programme traces the rise of industry from early beginnings-the monk's forge of Kirkstall Abbey, the weaver's village of Worstead. The helicopter flies low over the 1969 landscapes of the Rhondda pit-heads, races alongside Lotus cars, hovers by a Harrier. Below it, Mary Quant girls leap for a photocall, and Princess Anne launches the then largest ship ever built in Britain.

...by children from abroad
During the summer, children from abroad bring us memories of the countries they call home.
They tell us, too, of the customs and the people in the foreign country where they live now-Great Britain.
Reporters Jeremy James, Jeanne La Chard, John Pitman, Desmond Wilcox and Harold Williamson
This week: The Army Game
Everyone knows now that the Home Guard was affectionately known as 'Dad's Army'. Not so many know the Territorial Army as 'The Terriers'. Ex-National Servicemen joined to fulfil their reserve training obligations and some stayed on. Volunteers join because they like the idea of part-time military life. But the Territorial Army has always been a political ping-pong ball. In 1965 it was threatened with re-organisation and drastic pruning to save £20 million a year. But then came a reprieve. And in April last year a drive was started to recruit another 10,000 men. Today it has a new name - the Territorial and Army Volunteer Reserve - and a new look, with new weapons and a new job to do.
Man Alive looked at three units to find out what makes a quiet civilian family man want to fire guns and drive armoured cars for a fortnight a year and one evening a week. Do they feel part of a serious fighting force? Or, do they just play the army game?

From its sources in the Swiss Alps down to the North Sea, he explores the towns and countryside around this great river.
'Holland has a quality all of its own... the Rhine laps very gently here... through the rich lowland silt... so flat and fruitful.'

Among the thousands of children rescued from concentration camps at the end of World War II is one small boy who has lost his identity, his nationality, even the power to speak.
How young Karel, helped by an American soldier, regains his identity is the subject of this compassionate study.
