Egypt: The famous temples on the island of Philae are being drowned by the Aswan High Dam - UNESCO has a plan to save them.

Rome: New light on the Roman Baths at Bath. Professor Barry Cunliffe has excavated a new area which will soon be open to the public.

Britain: The Duke of Edinburgh recently opened the Neptune Hall at the National Maritime Museum. Centrepiece is the paddle-wheel tug Reliant which started life on the Manchester Ship Canal in 1907.

Wilfred Rhodes has become a legend in his own lifetime. He played in his first Test match - which was W. G. Grace's last - in 1899; his last in 1926, when he was 48. He is now 94. John Arlott visits him and accompanies him to a match.

Also... a few minutes before the vast television coverage of the Munich Games begins, Welland and Wooldridge turn a critical eye on the Olympic Movement.

Tonight's programme was recorded at a public concert in the Royal Festival Hall in 1970, the Beethoven bicentenary year. It completes the cycle of symphonies conducted by Otto Klemperer, the leading Beethoven conductor of our day, when he was 85 years old. It was the last time he conducted all nine symphonies, for earlier this year he announced his retirement from the concert platform.
