The Great Boer War, 1899-1902 recalled by the men who fought it

Written and narrated by Kenneth Griffith

From the very beginning of the war the Boers established a murderous superiority in marksmanship - and tactics. Defeat followed defeat for the British: at Modder River; the Siege of Ladysmith; the Battle of Spion Kop.
But, as their memories of these tragic months reveal, the ordinary soldiers, Boer and British, retained their humanity - and their sense of humour.

A series of ten programmes
with Kenneth Hudson
The third of a new series looking at Britain's industrial heritage.

Under the shadow of Snowdon stands a gaunt stone fortress, but this building had no military purpose. It was, in fact, the head-quarters of the Dinorwic Slate Quarry. Here in this isolated valley was a totally self-contained industry which trained its own incredibly skilled men and maintained its own massive machines - the Welsh slate industry.

Starring Michael Constantin, Daniel Ivernel, Franco Interlenghi, Irene Tunc

The third of six films in our summer selection comes from France and has not been shown commercially in Britain. It is a policier in the best French tradition and chronicles a brazen attempt to loot an entire town. There are no leaders, just 12 men working independently with military precision...
