Starting at Singapore, he travels by road and rail through Malaya to Northern Thailand.

"The temple of the Emerald Buddha... is such a delightful demonstration of sheer happiness... an ingenious, hilarious, architectural giggle."

Of Bangkok's 21-million population, ninety-four per cent are Buddhist and in this film Johnny visits Wat Bencha-the marble monastery-where he sees the monks at work and at prayer. He also visits the grounds of the Grand Palace and the fabulous Temple of the Emerald Buddha. The film ends with a tour of the Klongs. They form a maze of waterways through the city and the surrounding countryside, and the people live in houses that are open at the water's edge. Here too is the Floating Market where sampans are piled high with every kind of fruit and vegetable and where, from a boat, it is possible to buy anything from candles to a cup of coffee or a joint of meat.

with Robert Erskine

Feature films from a decade of movie-making.

But for Martha Watkins the great days must be now, and she sees opportunity within her grasp...
