During the Civil War no cotton reached Lancashire from the plantations. The mills were idle and the weavers starved. But Manchester sent a letter of support to Abraham Lincoln. This play is about a few of the weavers and mill-owners whose lives were affected by these events.

On July 10 Her Majesty The Queen took the salute at this unique occasion on Horse Guards Parade.
For the first time all ten Scottish Regiments joined together to Beat Retreat, the traditional ceremony that marks the end of the soldier's working day.
