Every year the town of Elche in south-eastern
Spain celebrates the feast of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary with a spectular mystery play. Written in a combination of Latin and the local Valencian dialect, it's an event that has to be seen - and heard - to be believed, as Catherine Bott discovers. Producer Les Pratt

Listen Up! La Finta Giardiniera
The 18-year-old Mozart's delightful opera, full of freshness and youthful energy, receives a rare staging at the Royal Opera House, London. The plot revolves around a beautiful countess disguised as a gardener and features a veritable cavalcade of love-sick suitors. But Mozart's ability to contrast comic buffa scenes with moments of passion and tenderness lift the riotous action from the ridiculous to the sublime.
Introduced by Stephanie Hughes in conversation with the conductor, John Eliot Gardiner.
