When Musical Worlds Collide: Jazz and Hip-Hop
2/2. Starting with music of alienation and protest from Gil Scott-Heron and Don Byron , Soweto Kinch continues his exploration of the interactions between jazz and hip-hop. There's Harlem Renaissance poetry from saxophonist
Gary Bartz , and tunes inspired by Turkish phone conversations from pianist Jason Moran. Kinch traces different treatments of the sung and spoken word from musicians as varied as Kurt Elling , Steve Williamson , Black Thought,
