5/5. The late 1680s to 1699
Donald Macleod unravels some of the uncertainties surrounding Charpentier's life. He examines the reasons why the composer never managed to gain employment at Louis XIV's court and the impact this failure may have had upon the composer. Given this lack of royal patronage, it's unclear why Charpentier wrote many of his larger works, including one of the most popular, his Te Deum in D. Te Deum in D Annick Massis (soprano), Magdalena Kozena (mezzo), Eric Huchet and Patrick Henckens (tenors),
