Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra Peter Donohoe (piano), conductor Takuo Yuasa (conductor) Arthur Bliss 's Piano Concerto was commissioned by the British Council for the 1939 New York World Fair and is dedicated to the people of the USA. It was described by the composer as "a concerto in the grand manner and what is loosely called 'Romantic'" .The concert concludes with Shostakovich's Tenth Symphony, written in 1953, the year of Stalin's death.
