Alcina
Handel's Baroque fantasy begins with the sorceress Alcina entertaining her latest lover, Ruggiero, when Bradamante
(Ruggiero's betrothed) turns up disguised as her brother Ricciardo. She and the tutor Melisso have to rescue Ruggiero from
Alcina's clutches, before she turns him, like all the others, into a rock, a tree or a wild thing. Complicating matters is
Morgana (Alcina's sister) who falls in love with the disguised Bradamante, which in turn angers her own spurned lover Oronte. Richard Hickox conducts this revival of the lavish production by David McVicar. Presented by Fiona Talkington.
