The Fires of London/Pierrot Players
Stephen Johnson explores BBC Archive recordings of the Fires of London - the ensemble formed by Peter Maxwell Davies and Harrison Birtwistle in 1967 (and known then as the Pierrot Players). Music includes Schoenberg's Pierrot Lunaire (Part 1) and a recording of the first performance of Sandy Wilson and Maxwell Davies 's concert su ite from The Boy Friend.

To mark the 50th anniversary of the death of the great Gypsy guitarist Django Reinhardt, Alyn Shipton goes in search of the itinerant Manouche Gypsies among whom Django grew up. Is it still possible to trace the musical roots of Reinhardt's style? Among families in the Gypsy settlements of Holland and Belgium, strong musical traditions are still handed down from father to son, while in Paris the urban descendants of Reinhardt mix new influences with jazz and Gypsy music to keep the legacy alive.

Edward Bond's gripping and funny play about the business ethics and boardroom power games of rival factions bidding for control of an armaments firm. The adopted son of an ageing arms manufacturer seeks control of his father's company but finds himself in the vice-like grip of a rival entrepreneur. Ordered to betray his father, he has to make a crucial decision.

Berkeley Father and Son Lennox Berkeley was born on 12 May
1903. This centenary tribute takes the form of a specially recorded concert of choral and organ music by Lennox and his son Michael, who also joins Paul Guinery and Roger Nichols in the studio to introduce the programme.
