Paul Guinery introduces a selection of choral music by George Lloyd. Although best known for his symphonies and concertos, Lloyd's early success came from opera. In his last years, following an even more successful creative rehabilitation, his love of writing forthe human voice was channelled into a series of major choral works like the dramatic cantata The Vigil of Venus and a non-liturgical Symphonic Mass. His last work, completed just months before his death, was a setting of the Requiem.
