Julian Joseph pays homage to pianist and vocalist Nat "King" Cole, who pioneered the trio format of piano, guitar and bass later adopted by Art Tatum and Oscar Peterson. Music includes his classic trio recordings of the early forties, a landmark session with saxophonist Lester Young and a live jam with guitarist Les Paul as part of Jazz at the Philharmonic.
In the last In Tune of 2000 Sean Rafferty celebrates a year of live performance with some of the musical highlights from the last twelve months. And Rob Cowan joins Sean in the studio with his selection of recent classical CDs to give as Christmas presents. Lichtenberg has been thrown into confusion by the kidnapping of many of the musicians, including all the vocal soloists. Also in the programme is Mitternachtsstuk, based on writings by Robert Schumann. The performers include the Netherlands Chamber Choir and the Schoenberg Ensemble conducted by Reinbert de Leeuw with tenor Christoph Homberger.
