Alongside it, Beethoven's grandest concerto, pitting the soloist against the full might of the orchestra, and Stravinsky's primeval ballet, which has made its mark on the whole course of 20th-century music.

Tonight's concert features the octet of British saxophonist Julian Arguelles , recorded at the Cheltenham Festival in April. Arguelles is acknowledged both as a distinctive, lyrical improviser and a prodigious composing talent. His octet is an all-star British line-up including lain Dixon on tenor sax, clarinet and bass clarinet.
