Joan Bakewell talks to Dutch soprano Elly Ameling , one of the world's greatest exponents of lieder. She reveals how her career began while she was dusting shelves in a bookshop and how she decided against an operatic career. Famous early on for her interpretation of Bach, Ameling later became a Schubert specialist. There are also recordings of music by Mendelssohn, Mozart and Brahms.
