John Tusa introduces a concert given last Sunday at the Barbican Hall, London, as part of the BBC
Symphony Orchestra's weekend festival celebrating the music of Czech composer Bohuslav Martinu. In this concert, the Nash Ensemble play chamber music, taking a joyful romp around the kitchen in La Revue de Cuisine, a ballet that describes the wedding of a cooking-pot and a saucepan lid, complicated by a jealous whisk. The group's acclaimed clarinettist, Michael Collins , also performs the jazz Sonatina. Nash Ensemble

The American composer John Adams celebrated his 50th birthday last year. Adams talks about the development of his music from early minimalist roots to an accessible style which draws on a huge variety of influences. With contributions from many of his collaborators and friends, including conductors Edo de Waart, Michael Tilson Thomas and Simon Rattle , director Peter Sellars , poets Alice Goodman and June Jordan and violinist Gidon Kremer.

All things considered, is it any surprise that the father of psychoanalysis turns out to be the one most in need of it? Johnson's surreal comedy about the supposed meeting between Freud and Dali takes a trip into the unconsciousness of the man who discovered it.
