The fourth of five programmes visiting great houses. Le Corbusier was convinced that architecture could bring about social reform. His experiment in vertical community living - the Marseille Unite d'Habitation - may be a concrete tower block, but it bears little resemblance to the public housing it inspired all over the world and which has been almost universally condemned in Britain. Susan Marling visits this revolutionary block, which is still loved by its residents.

Beaux Jours to Britain. Hermione Lee talks to Brook about the play, originally written in English as Happy Days, in which his wife Natasha Parry takes the part of Winnie, buried up to her waist and then up to her neck in sand. She also talks to directors and critics about the influence of Brook's productions, from his ground-breaking work with the RSC in the fifties to his epic production of the Mahabharata and his current work in France.
