Michael Berkeley 's guest this week is Ian Craft , director of the London
Gynaecology and Fertility Centre and one of the world's leading pioneers of in-vitro fertilisation. A passionate music-lover, Ian Craft comes from a musical background and is the dedicatee of several major contemporary works, including
Robert Simpson 's Symphony No 6, an excerpt from which is featured in this programme. But as he reveals, his musical tastes range from John Blow to Strauss.

The fourth of eight programmes celebrating musical personalities from the past. Adolf Busch - There Was Not a False Tone in Him
In a Berlin church on 1 April 1933, while Brown Shirts terrorised Jewish citizens all over Germany, the Busch Quartet performed Haydn's Seven
Last Words on the Cross. Soon, the leader, Adolf Busch , widely known as the only true successor to Brahms's friend Joachim, left Germany and cut himself off from his roots for ever. For many music lovers, the Lindsays, celebrating their 30th anniversary this year, share Busch's intensity and seriousness. David Mellor talks to leader Peter Cropper about the legacy of this composer, orchestral leader, chamber musician, soloist and duo partner of Busch's son-in-law Rudolf Serkin. Including excerpts from:
Bach Solo Violin Sonata No 3 in C,
BWV1005
Busch Violin Sonata No 2, Op 56 Rudolf Serkin (piano)
Bach Brandenburg Concerto No 4 in F Busch Chamber Players
Brahms Clarinet Quintet in B minor, Op 115
Busch Quartet, Reginald Kell (clarinet) Schubert Fantasia in C, D934
Rudolf Serkin (piano)

Ariadne auf Naxos
A hit in August at this year's Edinburgh International Festival, Martin Duncan 's award-winning production of the first version of Richard Strauss and Hugo von Hofmannsthal 's opera. The work is rarely heard, as it calls not only for an opera company but also for a full troupe of actors. Nottingham
Playhouse and Scottish Opera join forces in this production, in which
Strauss's music is prefaced by the razor-sharp comedy of Jeremy Sam 's new version of Moliere's play Le
Bourgeois Gentilhomme. Given at the Edinburgh Festival Theatre and introduced by Linda Ormiston.
