The most human of Wagner's four Ring operas, in which the incestuous love between the twins Siegmund and Sieglinde spells the beginning of the end for their father, the god Wotan. Tom between his love for his son and duty as a god, he finally abandons Siegmund - but not before his Valkyrie daughter Brunnhilde has disobeyed her father and tried to protect him.

During the sixties, the Lighthouse Cafe - near Los Angeles on the West Coast of America - became an important centre for innovative jazz due to its resident group. The Lighthouse All-Stars regrouped in 1991 for a European tour. Alyn Shipton introduces the concert they gave at the Alexandra
