Lighthouse All-Stars

on BBC Radio 3

During the sixties, the Lighthouse Cafe - near Los Angeles on the West Coast of America - became an important centre for innovative jazz due to its resident group. The Lighthouse All-Stars regrouped in 1991 for a European tour. Alyn Shipton introduces the concert they gave at the Alexandra
Theatre, Birmingham, as part of the Birmingham Jazz Festival. The performers include Shorty Rogers and Conte Condoli (trumpets),
Bud Shank , Bob Cooper and Bill Perkins (saxophones), Pete Jolly (piano), Monty
Budwig (bass) and Larance Marable (drums). During the interval, Alyn Shipton talks to Bud Shank and the late Shorty Rogers. Rpt
